About me
Greetings! My name is Dean "PepperBeef2Spicy" Medina, I'm a professional Tekken player, commentator and coach. With a decade of experience in competitive Tekken and nearly 13 years in competitive Fighting Games, I've competed in dozens of tournaments, competing at the local, national and even intern...

I just started playing Tekken only recently can you still help?
Absolutely! I'm here to help for any levels of experience. Even if you've been playing for 2 years and are still stuck at a rank you're not happy at or have never played against another human being before.
I'm already a seasoned tournament player, is coaching still worth it?
Definitely! Some of the best players in the world still get coaching behind the scenes. It may not look like it even when you understand the ins and outs of the game and all it's nuances it still helps to see an outside perspective by an equally perceptive and skilled player. An alternate perspective, especially from a player with a very different style or experience can help tremendously. I also specialize in prepping for tournaments and dealing with nerves, stress and all sorts of detracting mental struggles in competitive Tekken.
Do I need to know anything to start coaching?
The only thing you require is the game on PC or PS4, for us to be in a workable region and the internet. If you have zero prior experience in fighting games and know nothing about how fighting games generally work or terminology its all perfectly fine!
What is your coaching style?
It's a broad question but I am *very* passionate about getting my students to where they wanna be to the best of my ability. It is more than just a paid obligation but a personal place of satisfaction and joy for me to see players succeed. So I often go out of my way to help people even for free, advice afterall is basically free from me. But if I were to go down in bulllet points my style is: -Focused on conceptual, philosophical ways of approaching the game, creating decision making based on whats happening in the moment while also being aware of the motives of the opponent, and the limitations of your own and their character. -Sharing a wealth of knowledge on anything Tekken related to gameplay. Often giving essentially "lectures" based on the topic at hand. Note taking recommended, but there is plenty of room for questions and gameplay. -Highly supportive and encouraging but also not afraid to keep pointing out (and exploiting) flaws in a student's playstyle for them to focus on -Giving homework based on session tailored to student's needs -Extremely detailed and analytical, strong awareness of players' tendencies, flaws, strengths, weaknesses, playstyles, for better or for worse.
How long have you been playing Tekken?
I've played Tekken since I was a child with Tekken 1-4, but I got into Tekken seriously since 2012 with Tekken Tag Tournament 2. As of 2021, I have 9 years of experience in competitive Tekken
I don't play Lei, so what other characters can you coach for?
My main character is Lei Wulong, but I also have mained Leo and Marshall Law in the past. However I can also play: Josie, Xiaoyu, Feng, Yoshimitsu, Fahkumram, Leroy, Kunimitsu, Lidia, Bryan, Asuka, Steve, and Noctis. While I can't play every character in the game (at the moment, I'm working on getting everyone at least to Emperor), thanks to a long career of playing Tekken competitively I have a lot of experience against pretty much every character in the game. This list includes: Extensive Knowledge: Lei Law Leo Asuka Fahkumram Leroy Feng Xiaoyu Josie Bryan Julia Noctis Yoshimitsu King Akuma Kazuya Devil Jin Kazumi Lucky Chloe Marduk Paul Very Knowledgable Dragunov Kunimitsu Bob Master Raven Jin Heihachi Claudio Lee Steve Geese Anna Nina Alisa Lee Jack Eliza Lili Miguel Surface Level Knowledge Hwoarang Shaheen Negan Armor King Zafina Ganryu Lars Eddy Bears Gigas Katarina
Is Lei hard to learn/use?
The short answer is yes, the long answer is: it depends. You can be successful with Lei by learning only the bare minimum. And thus you can pick him up relatively quickly if you stick to those alone. However in my opinion the real strength of the character comes in his versatility and creative play. Something that is more or less required at the top level of play with Lei. Even if high level Lei player seem to be playing very "Vanilla" they didn't decide to play that way by choosing to ignore Lei's extensive movelist. It comes from a conscious choice to play conservatively but to strike with the wild stuff when the time is right. Being able to play Lei at a competitive high level requires one to have strong fundamentals (this is regardless of what character you play), but said fundamentals are enhanced by an incredibly unique character and mastering how he "works" and tempering it with strong fundamental neutral can be challenging. But incredibly rewarding, both literally and for fun.
I have trouble fighting Lei can you teach me how to beat him?
Absolutely! I always enjoy teaching people how to beat Lei as it forces Lei players to adapt and grow themselves. And there is definitely not shortage of people that dont know this matchup.
What regions do you teach? (If outside of NA or Western EU, We must do a conneciton test first)
At the moment I'm looking to primarily Tekken Western Hemisphere Tekken, so North and Central America, but also willing to teach players in South America and Western Europe. In the case of Europe, South America or otherwise- we would need to do a connection test first. If its not playable, we can coordinate from there on a non-playing coaching system or other recommendations. I also only speak English.
Where and whom did you learn Tekken from?
I live in New Jersey and have lived here all of my life. I'm blessed with the opportunity to play with some of the greatest players the United States has produced for Tekken. My main mentor figures includes: Bloodhawk, NYCFab, Inkognito, Joey Fury, Spero Gin, The Exalted and Suiken. In terms of inspiration, I watch A LOT of Lei players to learn new things some of these Lei players are Furumizu, Kelthu, Tetsuo, Suiken, The Exalted, Ahsan Ali, Frog, Akon, and Jokre. But I also take inspiration from other players who I try to emulate their style even though they dont play the same character as me such as Jimmy J Tran, Qudans, Nobi, and Rangchu.
Do you play Stick or Pad?
I play pad, but I'm also capable of playing Mixbox. At the end of the day it doesnt matter what controller you use, they're all viable for Tekken.
What is your highest rank online?
Lei - Tekken God Omega Leo - Tekken God Prime Law - Tekken King Other characters sit between Mighty Ruler and Ryujin, working on the rest of them!
