Top Mentor

Hey, I'm Zach and I'm professional Pokemon TCG player, content creator, and tournament organizer. I've been coaching players since 2010 and have been a full-time coach since 2017. I've been able to help players learn how to play the Pokemon TCG, learn the core mechanics of the game, and expertly display deep strategies of the game. I've helped players earn their invites to the World Championships, win Regional Championships, International Championships, and even a World Championship win. If you're looking for a coach that can help you reach your personal goals in Pokemon TCG, I'm the coach for you. Don't let my tattoos or dyed hair intimidate you, I'm a respectful, easy-going, and informative coach that can help you get to where you wanna go. I've played Pokemon TCG at a high level since 2006 and I have since have entered a career as a full time Pokémon TCG player / creator/ I have won countless League Challenges, countless League Cups, a Regional Championship, a National Championship, and most recently I was crowned the Oceania International Finalist and Players Cup 2 Champion! I've been the highest ranked player in Canada throughout most of the years I've played and consistently since the 2017-2018 season to present. I'm able to take my experiences from playing the game at a global level and help my coaching clients at every level along the way! Since 2020 I've turned into a full-time content creator and tournament organizer which gives me a unique perspective on the game. As a content creator I'm able to showcase my knowledge of all available decks in any format to share with our community. What that means is that I'm able to pilot many different kinds of decks, understand more mechanics of the game, and I can use that gained info to share with my coaching clients. As a tournament organizer I get to observe tournament trends, watch endless amounts of gameplay, and it has allowed me to view the game from a different perspective. With all of that being said, I offer a refreshing take on the game and I'm sure I can teach you how to play Pokémon TCG better. The areas that I excel in are: deck building, sequencing, prize mapping, game planning, and general skill set growth. I've turned many players into top competitors and I'd love to help you on your journey! Additionally, you can watch my content on Metafy here:

Getting Ready for the 23-24 Season
Written by: Zach Lesage A New Season As many of the best players in the world are departing to Japan for the 2023 Pokemon World Championships, our new season has already started! What?! Yeah, you can begin earning Championship Points [shortened to CP from now on] towards the 2024 Pokemon World Championships before we even know the location of where it will be held or the qualifications for that event. How? League Challenges and League Cups have started already, and you can get some early CP. If you look on the official Pokemon website event locator here: or the one that I prefer here:, you can start finding events to attend. In my article today, I’ll explain why attending events right now is essential, how to plan your season and more! It is an exciting time to be a Pokemon player, and the world is your Cloyster (I know I’m the

The Indestructible Tower
Recapping the Format As we approach the 2023 World Championships in Yokohama, Japan, I have been looking for inspiration on the best decks in the format. Our format for Worlds is E-block-on featuring cards until Paldea Evolved. That is the same format we played for the 2023 North American International Championships in Columbus, United States. If we look at the results from the event, the Juniors division was won by Arceus VSTAR [Brilliant Stars] / Regidrago VSTAR [Silver Tempest], the Seniors division was won by Arceus VSTAR / Duraludon VMAX [Evolving Skies] / Umbreon VMAX [Evolving Skies], and the runner-up in the Masters division also ran Arceus VSTAR / Duraludon VMAX / Umbreon VMAX. If we take a step back from the metagame filled with Gardevoir ex [Scarlet and Violet], Lost Zone Box, and Lugia VSTAR [Silver Tempest] decks, it is evident that Arceus VSTAR was essentially one of the most successful decks at NAIC. Furthermore, Arceus VSTAR / Duraludon VMAX / Umbreon VMAX was the star of the show - it saw a lot of success at the event with numerous top placements and the highest peaks out of all other decks. I’ve been playing Arceus VSTAR decks since the card

The Best Paldea Evolved Decks
Heading to Yokohama As our Paldea Evolved format gets fleshed out from League Challenges, League Cups, and major events, some decks are leading the pack. We’ve already seen a major tournament in our Paldea Evolved Standard format, the 2023 North American International Championships (shortened to NAIC), and I’m sure many of those same decks will continue to see success. Cyrus Davis was able to win NAIC with a Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX [Battle Styles] / Inteleon VMAX [Fusion Strike] deck that certainly looked impressive, and Ian Robb played his Arceus VSTAR [Brilliant Stars] / Duraludon VMAX [Evolving Skies] / Umbreon VMAX [Evolving Skies] deck to great heights, but are those decks even going to see success? Based on the current metagame at League Challenges, League Cups, and online Pokemon TCG events, I will share my top 5 decks in our Paldea Evolved format. Oh, and before

Psychic Embrace to Victory
Looking Back at NAIC As we approach Worlds and the early 2024 season, I often think it is best to look at decks that have recently seen a lot of success, especially those that have seen the highest success at major Pokemon TCG events. In this case, Gardevoir ex [Scarlet and Violet] saw two top four placements at the recent NAIC 2023 event in Columbus, United States. Why did the deck see success? It has many answers to crucial pieces of our metagame, and many opportunities exist to outplay your opponent. Kirlia [Silver Tempest] is a built-in draw engine, Gardevoir ex can accelerate many Energy, and both Zacian V [Celebrations] and Gardevoir [Chilling Reign] are potent attackers. With this deck seeing some of the most success in the format, it is a top choice for many at their next major event, and in this article share my most current list for the deck, explain the strategy, and also share details on how to play
