The 4-Week Training Plan

Getting better at Halo can be frustrating. It’s hard to know where to actually start in order for you to feel like you are improving. Do you have to work on your shot? Is it your overall awareness? Do you have certain bad habits that are getting you killed repeatedly? Of course, Halo is a game where you likely won’t see instant results, even if you know what you have to improve on. This is why I am offering a 4-week training program, for Halo players of any skill level. Whether you are just starting out into competitive Halo, or are a top amateur player trying to figure out what you need to improve on, this program will help you identify key areas in which you can improve in. This program includes 3 in-depth film reviews as well as game time in either the Ranked playlist or personal 1v1s. My goal for you at the end of the 4 weeks is for you to not only understand competitive Halo at a deeper level but for you to also see a noticeable difference in your gameplay. Note: It is recommended to choose different maps for each film session.

Sessions Overview

Week 2: Lecture 1 - 120 min

1 hour

For our first day of Lecture, you bring me a film of your choice in which we can sit down and review together. This first film session will give me an idea of what your habits are, both good and bad. For the best results, a game in which you think you played “average” is preferred. This will allow me to really see if there are fundamental flaws in the way you approach the game, as well as allow me to see some of your strengths. Every Halo player has different strengths and weaknesses; in this film session, I will try to identify what I believe to be your strengths and weaknesses and how we can build upon them for our future sessions. You will have a chance to ask as many questions as you like. After this film session, I will send you a list of detailed notes on what you need to improve on before our next Lecture. For the remainder of the time, we can either play the ranked playlist or partake in some 1v1s.

Week 3: Lecture 2 - 120 min

1 hour

Hooray, we are on our second day of training. You have now had a week to try and incorporate some of the lessons we discussed during week 2. We will watch another recent film of your choice (same criteria of film) and see how you improved during the week. Remember, you may not see drastic results, but I will be looking to see if you have incorporated some of the tips from the prior week into your gameplay. (For example, if I see you wasting your frag grenades consistently in week 1, I will check to see if you are still doing so in week 2). I will also cross-reference your film to those skills I talked about in Orientation to see how you are doing in incorporating those skills. This week is building upon the previous week and cracking down on eliminating bad habits and incorporating good ones, in addition to making sure we are building a good foundation of competitive Halo fundamentals. At the end of the film review, you will have another detailed outline of the film review which will include tips for you to work on in the future. If we have time left over, you will have the option of playing the Ranked playlist together or playing each other in 1v1s.

Week 4: Reassessment - 90min

1 hour

We made it! Today’s the last day. You have had another week of trying to incorporate some of the lessons you learned in the previous week. For the final day, we will do a final film review session; the process of the film review will be similar to the ones done in previous weeks. After the film session, I open the floor to you for any lingering questions about any concepts we discussed in our time together. I will write you a detailed report of our 4 weeks together and highlight things I saw you improve on, and also things you need to keep improving on. Even after our Training Plan ends, you will have access to my discord and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have at any time!

Week 1: 90 Min - Orientation

1 hour

For the first thirty minutes, I become acquainted with the student and learn of their background including how they got into Halo. I continue with a brief lecture of what skills I think matters the most in competitive Halo and what we can do to better hone those particular skills. This 4 week training plan will be loosely based around these core skills and how we can sharpen them to create a good foundation to build upon. For the rest of the time, we play some matchmaking (or 1v1s) in order for me to get a grasp of the student’s skill level along with building some rapport with the student. Overall, this introductory lesson is a chance for me to gauge the student’s current skill, as well as a chance for the student to get to know me, their teacher. (This introduction can slightly vary depending on the current skill level of the student)
