Essentials of Bayonetta

This multiple week lesson will teach you everything you possibly could learn about playing both as and against Bayonetta. Bayonetta serves an incredibly niche and obscure role in SSBU's meta, making her incredibly confusing and unorthodox at first glance. However, learning how to both play as and fight her is an incredibly wise choice for the inevitable time where you find a high/top level Bayonetta player in your bracket, which is why I'm offering this month long training pack. This 5-week training plan will teach you the core aspects of playing neutral with her, comboing with her, proper SDI counterplay (and further counterplay to said SDI), and how to find kills. If Bayonetta causes any kind of struggle for you, whether it's playing as her when you find her in random, having a bracket demon that you can't beat who mains Bayo, if you just want to figure out more about her in order to add her to your repertoire of characters, or even if you're a returning main and want a refresher or second opinion on your thoughts or gameplay, this 5-week plan is absolutely for you.

Sessions Overview

Introduction

1 hour

This will be the first meeting to talk about your current understanding of the character and establish what we should do as a duo to help you better learn for the following sections. Getting time to understand where you're coming from with the character allows me to give the best advice possible and allows me to better prepare myself for the future modules with you.

Neutral, aggression, and evasion

1 hour

Now that you have a base understanding of Bayonetta's kit and how it flows into itself, it's time to learn how to properly play neutral with her. You will learn how to efficiently camp, weave in and out of threat ranges, pressure shields, and force decisions from the opponent so that you can open them up with the explosivity of Bayonetta's kit.

General overview and bnbs

1 hour

This first session is mainly to assess what you already know about Bayonetta and will solidify what your play should look like whether you're playing as or against her. We'll be going over her general moveset, consistent combo routes, and reasoning behind certain move decisions. The goal in this hour (possibly longer) is to build a strong foundation for how you play as Bayonetta, thus allowing you to eventually break off and figure out how to make her feel like a "you" character.

SDI coverage and counterplay

1 hour

Now that you know how Bayonetta's moves flow into one another, it's time to delve into what makes her have some of the most depth out of any character in the game, SDI. This lesson will go over the ins and outs of covering various types of SDI as well as discussing optimal SDI and what should be expected when playing as or against Bayonetta.

Closing and final thoughts

Now that you're aware of the essentials of Bayonetta, it's time to lay everything on the table and see what needs ironing out. You'll run a first to 5 with me, either fighting one of my characters as Bayonetta, or fighting my Bayonetta with one of your characters. I will avoid playing the ditto because of the fact that Bayonetta's gameplans can change drastically when fighting herself. After the first to 5 we can discuss what I felt you did properly and what may still need work, but you should be well on your way to having a more than ready gameplan for both playing as and fighting against Bayonetta.
