Sessions Overview
Poking, Ideal Ranges and Stage Control
1 hourIn this session we will understand a fundamental concept of neutral, being range and positioning on the stage. In a lot of matchups, one can simply have an overwhelming advantage if they simply play at an optimal range. Therefore, we will work to understand what range is inherently best for your character, as well as the adaptations one must make to their range perceptions if the matchup calls for such adjustments. In addition, we will also understand how the concepts of poking and stage control affect the neutral as a whole, as well as the ranges one will desirably play at
How to understand Matchups
1 hourLike in any fighting game, some characters have inherent advantages over another. Some examples in smash bros ultimate are that Pikachu beats ganondorf. In this session, we will firstly understand the terminology associated with matchups and what they mean. Then, we will take a dive into some diverse matchups across the cast and look to why they are the way that they are. The goal of this session is to introduce the concept of critical thinking outside of player adaptations, so that one can limit their opponent's character with considered matchup plans. A secondary target will be to make a draft of a matchup chart for the student's character, so that they have a rough guide for where their character is strong and weak.
The guide to conditioning
1 hourIn this session, you should have understood all of the previous techniques and are now ready to implement some higher-level concepts into your play, so that you can be prepared to compete at higher levels of competition! We will look at the concept of conditioning here, and will understand what it is, how we can implement it and where it can be most effective. As an alternative to the on paper, linear view of why?, we will understand an alternative perspective and understand the game to a level which our opponents can only wish. Does this sound intriguing? If so, come along and learn with the ultimate guide to neutral!
Frame Data and Rock Paper Scissors
1 hourIn this session, we will understand the core timing values behind the inputs in the game (frames) and how we can use that information to tailor a gameplan to our advantage. Furthermore, we will look at Rock Paper Scissors interactions (where its a guessing game) can affect neutral and learn how we can manipulate those interactions to our advantage too.
