The CS analyst Mauisnake recently posted a short video showcasing what may be donk's signature peek, a move that he dubbed the "donk slide".
The move combines multiple actions into a strong peek, which works well in CS2's current game state. Read my thoughts on it below. π
πΏ The Ingredients
- wide swing
- acquire target
- counter strafe on the apex of the peek
- start to fire
- instantly start moving back the opposite direction
- start to crouch
- continue to spray while moving crouched
β The Effect
- a fast wide peek is hard to deal with and abuses peeker's advantage, additionally it drags out the enemy's crosshair towards your original peeking direction
- an abrupt counter strafe allows you to start firing
- the instant crouch avoids potential flicking back and headshotting of the enemy
- together with the movement towards your previous position, the crouch creates a "bending" of the character model, making retaliation shots even harder to hit
- the crouch itself gives you enough accuracy to continue the spray throughout the whole move
𧡠Final Words
After watching the video, I tried to practice the move. At first, it was surprisingly hard for me to re-organize my muscle memory to instantly start moving back towards my original position after stopping. It definitely is a move that takes practice to be performed well.
Try it out for yourself and potentially implement it into your own arsenal of peeking techniques.
